Equestrian Team

While most students ride Western-style, 目的’s Equestrian Team offers interested students an alternative riding experience.

The Equestrian Team is a hunt seat equitation program that allows both beginners and experienced riders to compete in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) against other high schools across California. At the discretion of the instructor, ninth graders who are experienced riders can ride with the Equestrian Team two days a week; after ninth grade, students can choose the Equestrian Team as their activity in the afternoon program for at least two seasons. When students have 英语 riding as their afternoon activity they will ride five days a week.

  • Competitions

The Equestrian Team competes against other schools in the IEA in two to three competitions per season depending on the experience level of students. Students are pushed to be able to adjust and adapt to any horse, leveling the playing field and truly testing the riders’ abilities. The points earned by riders at every level, from JV novice to Open Varsity, count equally toward the team’s final score—meaning every rider is an integral member of the team.
  • Accomplishments

The IEA hosts Regional, 区, and National finals; 目的’s Equestrian Team has been the 区 Champion multiple times and placed 3rd and 8th out of hundreds of schools at National Finals. Riders have continued on to be top riders at places like Cornell, Dartmouth, Skidmore, and Stanford.
